A glimpse at the Battle of the Sexes

I recently got into this new life; the working class. And it is in this domain that Iave seen and heard of sexual harassment, any kind of harassment actually. It is also in this domain that Iave met young men and women, who would be considered to be the youth and part of the upcoming generation that is supposed to build a better future.

The truth is, though, very different from the worst picture my brain could draw. We talked about women, men, relationships, family, marriage, etc. One detail that never escaped me in all this was listening to the guys talk about how they would treat their girlfriends. The girls disagreed. It was the battle of the sexes. And quite honestly, to me, it was funny. The men of this society are possessive over people. People are not objects; there is no lease, no rent, no paper that proves property. A signed paper that says a woman is your wife is not proof of property! You donat like the way men look at women, so you veil them. You donat like the way men look at veiled women, you lock them up in your homes. This is not a solution. If you only treat the symptoms and the virus stays intact, it will come out of its sleep and have its effect again.

The topic finds its way into a couple living together outside the bounds of marriage. The guys were cheering for it! Of course. Why not? Why wouldnat it be okay for a couple to live together? Well, as expected, the tables turned when one of the girls asked a?How would you feel if your girlfriend had lived with an ex?a? The amount of testosterone in the room at that moment was too high. Some were screaming, some were cursing, but the end result was clear enough: 1 out of the 7 guys didnat find this to be alarming. And, this guy kept to himself the entire length of the conversation. This reminds me of another line of thought: when a guy is serious about a girl and has future plans with her, he wants her to be virgin. And, since he has a?needsa?, he sees no problem satisfying himself elsewhere because as stated before, his future wife has to be untouched. This is why that one guy remained silence; there is no point in arguing with people who have this mentality. Where does it lead to? People donat back off from the double standards they live in as long as it is in their favor. Why would they? Men get everything they want here. Good jobs, cars, women. Letas be honest; most men donat have ambitions or desires beyond the tip of their nose. The women these men are fascinated by are the ones that, to me, look like Barbie dolls who laugh at every lame joke. The cars these men want are the muscle cars that reflect their strength.

What people should learn is that, yes, the things we like in life do reflect our inner selves, but, what they reflect are the things that arenat brought to our attention yet. For example, a big 4×4 with even bigger tires does not say you are a big strong man; it actually speaks volumes of how small you are and how insecure you are about the lasting effect you have on people.

And I’ve learned, I finally learned and came to terms with it, that men are not supposed to be protectors. Women can actually take care of themselves. And I say this, with joy. Women can and have been taking care of themselves. Men should just back off and stop choking them. It is none of my business where my sister goes to in the middle of the night. It is not my job to make sure she is not doing anything a?wronga?. It is none of my business who my closest friend is going back home with. Itas not up to me to protect her from all evil. Itas not even up to her father.

When one of the guys pointed out that a certain girl was seen socializing with many guys, she didnat shut up about it. She let him have a piece of her mind and she put him back in his place. The girls who donat shut up about these things make me smile, because I see that in the upcoming years these girls will not let a man put them down and the revolution will not easily be put asleep.
